MINSK, 3 July (BelTA) – There cannot be superpowers in the world that give themselves a right to dictate their will to the sovereign and independent states, Belarusian Head of State Alexander Lukashenko said at the military parade to mark Independence Day and the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazis.
“Every nation, every country has a right to make a choice in their development. It is a fundamental principle for the international relations. Therefore Belarus, as one of the founders of the United Nations Organisation, aims to the rapprochement between the nations. We are against using force in settling conflicts,” the head of state said.
According to him, the importance of Belarus’ role in ensuring security and peace in the European region should not raise doubts in anyone.
“It is pivotal that every state understands its responsibility before the global community. Belarus truly cherishes the traditions of peace and neighbourhood. We believe it is vitally important to develop all round and mutually beneficial cooperation with all countries, maintain and strengthen the existing systems of international and regional security, follow a consistent well-balanced multi-directed foreign policy,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
In his words, the world community today needs to unite its efforts and conduct a just and peaceful policy in order to overcome the global financial and economic crisis, prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons, fight against extremism and terrorism. “During the years of war, despite the then contradictions and different political views, the Western countries were alongside the Soviet people in the fight against the Nazis. The years of WWII showed there could not be anything more valuable than solidarity and unity between the countries and nations,” the President said.
