Defense Ministries of Belarus, Poland sign cooperation plan

MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) – The Defense Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of National Defense of Poland have signed a bilateral cooperation plan on 20 November, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Defense Ministry.
The document was signed by Head of the Department for International Military Cooperation of the Belarusian Defense Ministry Colonel Igor Zarovkin and Deputy Director of the International Security Department of the Ministry of National Defence of Poland Rafal Sieniuch.
The press service informed that the document signals the willingness of the two countries to step up military cooperation. It envisages implementation of new projects in peacekeeping and verification, military training, information exchange, engineer, legal and financial support of the military cooperation, etc.
The sides discussed the immediate priorities of the bilateral military cooperation. They expressed mutual interest in developing cooperation in the military area. For example the cooperation in peacekeeping has been raised to a new level. In July 2009 representatives of Polish military mass media visited Belarusian military facilities. This year consultations on international security were held in Warsaw on the initiative of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.
Belarusian military doctors took part in the workshop, Intervention Neuroradiology, in Poznan.
Cadets of the Minsk Suvorov military college visited several cultural and historical sites in Poland.
In turn, the department for commemoration of the Fatherland defenders and war victims of the Armed Forces of Belarus and the Polish council for the protection of memory of the struggle and martyrdom conducted a range of joint events. In 2008-2009 specialists of the 52nd independent specialized battalion discovered the remains of 16 Red Army soldiers killed in June 1941 in the Podlaska province. Some 164 Belarusian military men took part in a ceremony of paying last respects to the soldiers.
