| Tobacco Factory Neman to launch new cigarettes packaging line in May | ||

MINSK, May 4 (BelTA) – The Grodno Tobacco Factory Neman has installed a new production packaging line. The new equipment will produce 1.75 billion King Size format cigarettes a year, BelTA learnt from Belgospischeprom Concern. The cost of the equipment made up ?5.63 million. At present, the company is assembling the new packaging line. The equipment is expected to be put into operation in late May this year. This big investment project was included in the state import-substituting programme for 2009. In February this year, the equipment to produce and pack cigarettes (PROTOS 2C type) was supplied to the Grodno Tobacco Factory Neman from Germany’s Hauni Maschinenbau AG. At present, the new equipment is being installed. The launching of the new production packaging line together with the super slims cigarettes production line launched in December 2008 will allow Neman to produce all kinds of the cigarettes which are imported to Belarus. In Q1 this year, within the framework of the state import substituting programme, the company produced 2 402.8 million cigarettes, or up 31.4% as against the same period of last year. In Q1 this year, Neman produced 160.5 million super slims format cigarettes. Within the framework of the joint project with British American Tobacco Trading Company in Q1 this year, Neman produced 489.3 million cigarettes, or up 12.7% as against the same period of last year. The company also produced 1913.5 million cigarettes of its own brands (Minsk, Magnat, Premier, NZ, Cronon, Combat, FEST, Minsk-Superslims) in Q1 this year. All in all, in Q1 this year, the Grodno Tobacco Factory Neman produced 3190.7 million cigarettes, or up 97.3% as against the same period of last year. The total industrial output made up Br69.3 billion, or up 3.3% as against January-March 2008. The company produced consumer goods at the amount of Br71.7 billion, or up 4.2% as against the same period of last year. The Grodno Tobacco Factory Neman makes 20 brands of cigarettes. Set up in 1861, the company employs 1,000 people. |
