Alan Turing is a hero. He's the reason you're reading this right now. Why? How? He created the first computer system, which he named Christopher, so that he could crack the enigma code during World War II. He succeeded and helped save millions. In return for this incredible feat he was given chemical castration treatment due to his homosexuality. Inspiration seeps through The Imitation Game (2014) and that small description is only partly why. Cumberbatch is absolutely sublime and portrays Turing so elegantly, I fell in love with the film the second I witnessed it. Along with the true story aspects there's another thread which I can see hit hard with others as it did with me... the younger years of Alan Turing. We watch as he falls in love with another boy, innocent love, pure, young love which has no criticisms or expectations - just two personalities connecting. That love is taken away from him... but he never truly lets it go. The machine that fixes everything and that will live on forever is named after that boy; Christopher. • • #imitationgame #worldwar2 #memorial #enigma #code #history #hero #history #war #mind #genius #mind #science #technology #truelove #lgbt #gay #homosexual #law #life #hope #inspiration #benedictcumberbatch #film #london #photography

“Come back to me.” Cecillia murmured. Little did she know how much meaning those words held and how real they would never become. Robbie Turner would not come back. This was their final farewell. This was their final kiss. This was their last physical connection with one another. Neither of these people would be standing where they were if it wasn't for one naive child who didn't understand the consequences of her own actions. One decision doesn't just affect you, it effects every single person who is a part of your life. Cecillia and Robbie learnt that the hard way and consequently had a life cut from marble but carved in stone; a life of separation and reaching for something that would never see the light. Love is something that is standing tall & bright in front of you when you're not looking for it but impossible to find when you're obsessed with the notion – to find love accidentally is beautiful. It's rare. It's worth never letting go and fighting through every bumpy road or battlefield. They both knew that, so did I. That's what made this film sharpen my emotions back in 2010 and why this film has forced me to get through multiple packets of hearts, the loss of WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN is a daunting prospect. If I said goodbye to a loved one and fully thought I'd see them again, murmuring the words as they left, “Come back to me.”, and they never did exactly that…? Well... that's Atonement (2007) for you. • I contemplated not to share these due to the scaffolding in the way of the shots but after discovering it wouldn't be removed until next year I just went for it! It links quite well with the film really... unfinished business. • • #atonement #robbieturner #jamesmcavoy #keiraknightley #joewright #worldwar #world #soldier #passion #love #loss #hope #heart #forever #always #letter #1930s #london #classic #contrast #photooftheday #explore #film #movie #vintage #art #photography #cinematography #timeoutlondon
